Taliesin Jones (John Paul MacLeod) is a young boy who lives on a small farm in the Wales countryside with his father (Jonathan Pryce) and older brother Jonathon (Matthew Rhys). While Jonathon is destined to inherit the farm someday, the twelve-year-old Taliesin is satisfied to immerse himself in his numerous books and vast imagination, which often leads him to battle with winged dragons or play rugby on the national Wales team.

Taliesin's intellectual curiosity finds him wrestling with some of life's tough questions, but it also makes him a target for bullies at school. He finds solace in a friendship with hhis piano teacher Billy Evans (Ian Bannen), a kindly, old sage who encourages Taliesin to explore his faith. When he witnesses Billy heal a woman's back with his bare hands, not to mention his curing of Taliesin's warts, he bigins a spiritual journey and feels miracles are within his grasp.

Faith provides a sanctuary for Taliesin and his troubles, including a damaged relationship with his estranged mother (Geraldine James). Taliesin decides to create a club at school called "The Believers"- a small group of friends intent on performing miracles for sick classmates, despite protests from his doubtful headmaster.

Taliesin's faith is put to the test when his friend Billy suddenly passes away. With his mentor and confidant gone and so many questioning the miracles he has beheld, Taliesin finds it too difficult to be a believer. It may take one more miracle to affirm Taliesin's conviction in this charming coming-of-age story of a young boy discovering what it takes to become a true believer.
