She ran and ran until she saw dim lights lining a distant road. Full of hope she ran to them. As soon as her hand touched the door, the house disappeared into a field of weeds. She saw another road in distance, but this one was lined with corpses, their long mangled hair trailing in the dirt. Shadowy spirits circled around the bodies. In fear she ran on.
Mei Chen had speant her life running. From addiction, from violence and now from the spirits. Shackled to the painful memories of her past, and with all hope teaten out of her, she was on the verge of suicide.
In this true story, Mei is one of three women whose lives are ruled by the spirits they worship. Overtaken by misfortune and disaster, they are entangled by broken relationships and wounded emotions. Escape seems impossible: Too impossible, even, for God?
In these narratives, Jennefer Su presents a startlingly real picture of the Taiwanese working class that shows no situation is beyond the reach of God's grace.
"An engaging story that paints a vivid picture of the challenges of contemporary Taiwan, a society where the traditional and ultra-modern live in unresolved tension. As these three lives demonstrate, the barriers to the Gospel are formidable, but still God is at work."
